LONDON is a very unique city, it has its own type of TAXI`s, namely the Black cabs that we are all familiar with. These are the only vehicles that are allowed to ply for hire in London.

This has both advantages and disadvantages.

Black cabs can only generally be found at major airports, train stations and tourist haunts, and almost never within about 5 miles of central London.

This means that you could Get a black cab to visit Eltham Palace in South-east London, but your chances of getting one back are less than Zero.

PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES fill this gap in the market, they are not allowed to ply for hire, but they are allowed to undertake pre-booked journeys. Londons suburbs have countless private hire firms (minicabs), and for people living outside central London, they are an essential form of transport.

Minicabs are ordinary saloon cars, or maybe even MPV`s they are a lot more comfortable, and a lot cheaper than Londons Black cabs.
