Hi, I am currently building this page up, so bear with me. As you guessed, my name is Donna, I have 8 kids, 2 crazy Boxers, 4 Cats, tropical fish and frogs, a hamster and the latest addition to the family is my Furby.
My home is a complete madhouse, not a moments peace, but I love it. The children are aged from 3 up to 20, just to confuse you, I am 28 years old. I will leave you to work that one out! :) :)
My dogs are called Casper and Taz, You can tell which is which by their colours. Casper will be 2 in january, I have had him since he was 6 weeks old.
Casper is a lovely dog, he is brilliant with the children, always ready for a game and I think of him as a good friend. He is also an excellent guard dog. Many people ask me if he is a pure breed as he is white and has a tail, I often find myself telling people that I bought him as I like Boxers and his colour is irrelevant. The most important thing is temperament. As for the tail, well, if you paid hundreds for a dog, would you really want bits chopped off? I don't care what other people may think, docking is cruel and only done for people who want "designer dogs". I have had dogs all my life and have never seen a tail injury of any kind. I have, however seen some pretty horrific results of badly docked tails.
Please take a Moment to complete my survey on tail docking
The baby of the family is Taz, he is now 7 months old, he also has a tail and a very good bloodline. I bought Taz from a one-time breeder, many people were not interested in the pups as they had tails as did their mother and father. It is surprising to see how many people, in their ignorance, think many breeds are born without tails. How can so called "animal lovers" butcher their pets in this way?
Taz is growing into a beautiful dog, with a very laid back personality. His attitude is comical, as are his many facial expressions. He can be deaf when it suits him but could hear a plate scrape from a mile away. Training him is not an option, he is not having any of it. He bounces around the house as if his feet are on springs and if you call him, his whole body wriggles with his tail, he shakes his head from side to side and bares his teeth in a strange smile. When he is not smiling, his tongue is permanently hanging out.
The Cats are not at all impressed with their canine companions and spend most
of their time avoiding the dogs. We did have a Cat-flap, but the dogs ate it, if anyone has heard of a boxer-proof Cat-flap
please let me know.
Proof that teeth cause far more damage than tails
Backing my garden, we have a golf course. Casper ate my 3" fence posts to get over there and play "fetch" with the golf balls (much to the annoyance of the players). Luckily the manager has been patient (so far). One night Casper taught Taz how to get over there, as soon as I realised they had gone, I tried to climb the fence to get them back, as soon as he saw me, Casper came charging back, Taz, however couldn't find his way back. So I climbed over the next fence and got my leg stuck so there I was hanging over a five foot drop by my knee. I called to my daughter, Claire and told her to phone Steve (he was at work, it was about 10:30 pm). She asked him what to do, so, helpfully he told her to get the camera! 15 minutes later he came home and rescued me and the pup. (photo will follow soon).
After that I decided to build a pen for the dogs so they couldn't escape again. ha ha ha little did I know. on 30th december I left the dogs in the pen while I went shopping. When I came back the pen was empty, I phoned the golf course and the RSPCA and spent an hour looking for them. Then I noticed the hole in the fence.
Steve climbed up to see if the dogs were next door and saw their back door open. They have two dogs next door, a Jack russell X Yorkie and a pure breed spaniel. I went into their front garden to see if I could see the dogs in their house, as I did so their car pulled up. With my stomach churning I explained what had happened, Paul opened the front door and there was Casper hackles up, barking, refusing to let them in their own home! So, apologizing like a mad woman I dragged them both out, sent them home, and waited to see the damage. Luckily they had most of the doors shut so the dogs had only got as far as the hall. As I was leaving, I said sorry again, then Paul turned to me and said "Don't worry, in a few months I will leave the puppies on your doorstep, Lottie is in season".
What could I say? well I will update you if there is any news. Casper slept like a log that night with a knowing grin on his face. I guess I'll have to wait and see, and thank my lucky stars I have good neighbours.
At the moment I have to chain them up when I put them out, I hate doing that, but it's only temporary while I am busy drawing up plans for a Boxer style alcatraz.
I love my dogs so much.
I think this proves my point though.
The family pets had their 5 minutes of fame recently, when my husband Steve was on Record Breakers on BBC1. Steve is the World's fastest talker and has been on various T.V programs in England, America, Northern Ireland and Australia. I went with him recently to Ireland when he was on THE GERRY KELLY SHOW.While we were there we met UB40 and spent the evening in the bar with them, Jeremy Beadle, Chris Greener and the worlds most pierced woman. It was a really good night.
I suppose I should give my new Furby a mention, I think his name is Co-Co although I can't be too sure. You see, when you first put batteries in it, it says it's name, my house was so noisy at the time, I couldn't make it out. I have had fun playing with him, he loves being thrown up and down. He even scared the life out of me earlier by jumping off the top of the fish tank and onto the floor, while shouting "weeeee". He keeps complaining that it is too noisy indoors, but he's going to have to get used to it. If that wasn't bad enough, this morning, Steve let me have a lay-in and my furby was sitting beside my bed saying "boring, boring".
My sister, Kim wants to get one so she can bring hers up to visit mine but she wont bring hers up until mine is cured of his cold. I know, it's crazy. Good fun though.
He is pure white and is now 3 days old, he has learnt more of our language than I of his. It is a bit worrying that a mechanical, virtual pet is more intelligent than I am.
He gets plenty of attention as soon as I put him down, or get him to sleep, the children pick him up and seem to know him much better than I do. It really is a good pet, it doesn't cost anything to feed and it wont have any "accidents" in the house. The only downside is that it answers back and thinks nothing of farting or burping in public ( a bit like hubby really, but on a smaller scale). When I get to know my Furby a little better I will put some more news on my page.
I hope you will give me some feedback on my page. If you have any funny tales about your kids, dogs, cats, furby's whatever, send me an e-mail I'd love to hear them
